We stock a wide range of mountain bike handlebars, road bike drop bars, sturdy BMX bars & commuter friendly bars.
Changing your handlebars can change your riding experience entirely!
COMMUTER HANDLEBARS
If you’re a commuter on a flat bar bike and you find it not great on your wrists, consider new bars.
Discomfort in the wrists & the neck when riding on a commuter bike is very common. This is because standard flat bars aren’t particularly ergonomic.
The flat bar style comes from mountain bikes, where they give you lots of leverage & control.
Which is great on a commuter bike too, but sometimes not comfy.
And if you are commonly riding around an urban environment, you might not need the reach & leverage.
Changing your super straight flat bars to something with a big of ‘sweep’ is great. The sweep refers to how much the ends of the bars come back towards your body. This brings your shoulders into a more favourable position. And most importantly, changes the severe angle of your wrists to something more natural.
We recommend a swept bar on any commuter bike to make it a more pleasant riding experience.
HANDLEBARS WITH A RISE
Handlebars with a ‘rise’ are extremely popular for making a more comfortable riding position. Depending on your saddle height & the geometry of your bike, you may find it uncomfortable with flat bars. And a handlebar with a slight rise can reduce your ‘aggressive’ forward leaning position on the bike.
This rise will naturally move your body weight from your hands & wrists & shoulders & elbows. And instead re-balance your weight back between your other touch points on your bike. Such as your saddle & your pedals.
Comfort on your bike is all about finding a good balance of weight across your 3 touch points on the bike. So bringing your handlebars up towards you lessens the weight.
Riser handlebars will also bring your eyeline further upwards. Making it easier to look ahead of you, and to turn your head – all very important!
If you have ever had problems looking over your shoulder to see passing cars or when making a turn, consider riser bars. The change in the angle at which you will need to turn your head can improve your visual field.
And as we become stiffer & less ‘bike fit’ the rise in the bars can bring you back to your neutral position. Your new neutral! Which will increase your comfort & confidence when riding – the most important thing.
