Locks
Times are tough, be sure to lock your bike!
As we weather financially tough times, we in bike shops see an increase in bike theft. So if you have previously been able to leave your bike leaning against a fence and not have it stolen, that might not be true anymore.
We recommend locking your bike as a preventative measure, even at home or on the porch.
We hear about bike theft every day, so we know it happens.
Choosing a lock is tricky, as the cost of the lock increases with the security level. So a cheap lock is not as safe as a more expensive lock. Expensive locks will have a more complex locking barrel inside that is harder to pick and less likely to jam. A higher priced lock is also more likely to be made from durable material such as having a thicker metal shackle diameter.
We know it can be a big ask to make the cost outlay for a lock that is close to what you paid for the bike. We hear this a lot! The best thing we can say is that when you buy an expensive lock, it is likely to last you many years. And you can use it on any bike you may have in the future. In fact, its common for your lock to outlast your bike!
