Triple Butted spokes are an uncommon spoke that is strong but with a lighter weight than usual. Rather than being the same thickness of gauge through the length of the spoke, they reduce in the center. Adding up the weight of 70 or so spokes you will need for a wheelset, this reduced weight can be significant. Building with triple butted spokes is a consideration on heavy cargo bikes or tandem bikes. Or for downhill bikes or loaded touring bikes with significant weight. This is an alternative to the weightier 13G spokes.
Our range of spokes come in just about any length you could need, but if you can’t find your length don’t worry. We are a wheel building specialist workshop at Abbotsford Cycles and we custom cut spokes in house using a Phil Wood Spoke cutter. If you are looking for Phil Wood spokes, jump on our main website or come in store & we will cut them on the spot for you!
